One of the most popular additions to meals, especially ready-made ones – ketchup, has been the subject of much debate lately. Namely, there’s growing evidence that store-bought ketchup can put your health at serious risk, mostly because of the ingredients it contains, such as high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), as well as a number of taste enhancers to make its taste as delicious as it is.
The thing is commercial brands are packed with sugar, which is why they trigger a spike in blood sugar when consumed. Plus, they have no real nutritional value. What’s more, even the organic varieties contain certain questionable ingredients.
As for HFCS, not many people know that this highly refined sugar, which is cheaper than sugar, is commonly used to extend the shelf life of almost all processed foods.
Now, you don’t have to give up your favorite food addition. But, you can definitely do something to reap the most benefits of nutrient-rich tomatoes – make your own ketchup. And, if you think that this is complicated, you are very wrong, because the recipe we provide here takes only 2 minutes.
- 1 cup of organic tomato paste
- ¼ cup of water
- 1 tbsp. raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp. raw honey
- ½ tsp. sea salt
- ¼ tsp. mustard
The only thing you do is mix all the ingredients in a bowl and add to your salad, pasta or pizza. Bon appetite!
