The bathroom is everyone’s least favorite place for cleaning. It’s always considered to be the dirtiest part of the house, and you feel like you have to scrub and scrub with all sorts of chemicals to destroy all the germs and bacteria. But the truth is that every bathroom can stay crispy clean if everyone cleans up after themselves and when it comes to the spring cleaning we’ve got just the perfect solution for you.
Have you ever wondered what’s in those chemical toilet bowl cleaners?
Chemicals, chemicals, toxins, and some more chemicals. Almost every commercially sold cleaner contains bleach, and studies show that bleach can damage the lungs. You certainly wouldn’t want it anywhere near your family! The chlorine in the bleach mixed with any kind of acid can create a toxic gas, which can be deadly. It can also irritate your skin and respiratory system, and damage anything it comes into contact with.
Cleaners also contain about 10-50% hydrochloric acid, which has been connected to kidney damage and respiratory issues if inhaled. The fragrances many companies use, on the other hand, can cause allergic reactions, headaches and a long list of other problems.
The Natural Solution
After extensive digging around we’ve found the perfect natural solution for your toilet woes, and after trying this we promise you’ll dump all your chemical cleaners in the garbage!
Here’s what you need:
- ½ cup baking soda
- ½ cup citric acid
- ½ cup cornstarch
- water in a spray bottle
- gallon size zip-top bag
- 25 drops essential oils – your choice but I recommend lemon or orange for its cleaning properties, plus two others for nice-smelling purposes.
- mold of your choice (muffin tins are excellent)
- giant Ziploc baggie
Pour all the ingredients except for the essential oils in the zip-top bag and shake it all up. Open the bag and spritz 2-3 times with the water bottle inside, close the bag again and knead. Repeat this step 5-7 times and if the bag gets bloated let the air out. You need a dough-like texture so squeeze it with your hands and if it stays like that your toilet bomb is ready. Add the essential oils of your choosing and knead the mixture some more.
Transfer the mixture in the muffin tins, pack them firmly and leave them to air dry for two days. Take them out of the muffin tray and leave them to air dry for a day or two more. Store them away and take them out whenever you need to clean the toilet.
It’s even easier to use these muffin toilet bombs, just drop them in your bowl and wait until the fizzing stops. Brush the sides a bit and flush. Voila, sparkling clean and germ free toilet bowl! Protect your environment and your family with this simple trick!
