From a Wheelchair to Commuting on a Bicycle: How One Woman Naturally Reversed MS

Dr. Terry Wahls was bound to a wheelchair for 4 years as a result of secondary progressive multiple sclerosis. However, she started using Functional Medicine to create the Wahls Protocol, which has helped her regain her health and body. Today, she can walk without a cane and even commutes by bike.

Astoundingly, she has managed to accomplish this although modern medicine has yet not found cure for multiple sclerosis. As stated in

Multiple sclerosis (abbreviated MS, known as disseminated sclerosis or encephalomyelitis disseminata) is an inflammatory disease in which the fatty myelin sheaths around the axons of the brain and spinal cord are damaged, leading to demyelination and scarring as well as a broad spectrum of signs and symptoms.”

In other words, MS reduces the ability of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord to communicate with each other effectively. What happens in MS is that the body’s own immune system attacks and damages the myelin, which in turn prevents the axons to effectively conduct signals. Even though scientists have managed to explain the process in detail, they still haven’t been able to find the cause that triggers the onset of MS. Some alleged risk factors include genetics, infections as well as different environmental contributors.

Multiple sclerosis can appear in either a relapsing form, when new symptoms occur in discrete attacks, or in a progressive form, when symptoms accumulate over time. The disease can be manifested by a wide array of neurological symptoms including cognitive and physical disability. Until today, no cure has been found for this debilitating disease. Some of the treatments, however, include return of function after an attack, preventing new attacks, and preventing disability. Unfortunately, MS therapies can also give side effects and some patients cannot even tolerate them, which is why many of them opt for alternative forms of treatment.

We cannot say that what Dr. Wahls did for herself is the cure for MS, but it’s a fact that she no longer has the symptoms, and is able to walk without support.

In the video below, Minding Your Mitochondria, Dr. Terry Wahls gives detailed explanation of her own treatment. It’s well worth seeing!

“Too many of us have spent years, sometimes decades, failing to provide our cells with the building blocks they need to conduct the chemistry of life properly.” ~ Dr. Terry Wahls
