Spicy Cheetos Are Hospitalizing Kids

Parents, be careful: the spicy crisps in your food cupboard may be harmful to your kids – and it’s not because they are deficient in nutrients. Emergency departments are reporting of an increasing number of kids treated for gastritis (a painful inflammation or erosion of the stomach lining) on a daily basis, after eating Flamin’ Hot Crunchy Cheetos.

Spicy Cheetos Are Hospitalizing Kids

White Memorial Medical Center’s Dr. Martha Rivera  states that “On any given day, I see five, six, sometimes more cases of kids with gastritis due to eating spicy chips, spicy candies and spicy delicacies.”

Dr. Martha Rivera of the White Memorial Medical Center claims that “We have a population who loves to eat the hot spicy, not real foods, and they come in with these real complaints.”

Why do spicy chips cause gastritis? Flamin’ Hot Crunchy Cheetos are spiced enough to alter the pH balance of children’s stomachs which consequently results in gastritis. And it’s not only the hot spice that causes this issue; doctors claim that it’s also the flavor coating on the Cheetos that contributes to the change in pH levels.
