The most common diseases transmitted by ticks are Lyme borreliosis and tick-borne encephalitis, and risk group exposed to ticks are people who professionally or recreationally stay out of the areas where there are natural foci of ticks, such as foresters, forest workers, soldiers, hikers, hunters and tourists.

Ticks transmit Lyme borreliosis – bacterial disease characterized by redness of the skin or oval ring shape that spreads, with pallor in the middle.

The second most common disease transmitted by infected ticks is a meningoencephalitis.

This disease is characterized by fever, headache, fatigue, malaise and muscle aches. In a small number of patients the disease can affect the cerebral membrane, as indicated by symptoms such as strong headache; neck stiffness, nausea and vomiting, and can lead to inflammation of the brain with disturbed consciousness.

It is fortunate that only a small number of ticks infected pests when feeding on forest animals. For the activity of ticks favorable temperature and humidity is important, so it is highest in the spring and early summer, and can be found in both early fall.


Experts recommend that people going in nature should protect themselves with suitable clothing and footwear – long sleeves and trousers tucked into socks and closed shoes.
