Make Your Own Natural Insect Repellant With This Simple Recipe


Bug bites are awful but to get rid of insects, you seem to have to cover yourself in harmful chemicals just to repel them. You can actually make your own bug spray easily and it isn’t harmful to your health, your family, or any of your children (if you have them). However, it will still be strong enough to deter bugs.


The ingredients used in DIY bug spray is similar to those that you might also use in a variety of other natural products such as all-purpose cleaners, tile scrub, fabric softener, laundry detergent and several others.

In order to create the best organic bug spray you can find, you need a few simple ingredients:

  • 10 drops of Lavender essential oil
  • 10-12 each drops of Citronella, Eucalyptus, and Lemongrass essential oils
  • 15 ounce bottle of witch hazel

To create your bug spray, use small bottles (glass spray bottles work best) and divide witch hazel eventy between them to create a bug spray for inside and outside, maybe one for the car, and one for anywhere else. Put each of the oils into the witch hazel and fill it up to the top with the witch hazel. Put a lid on it and shake it well so the oils mix. Every time you reach for the bug spray, be sure to shake it so they get better mixed up.

Some people love the smell and some hate it (mostly because citronella stinks). However, it can make you rest easy to repel bugs safely and it’s not something that makes you feel gross or dirty to wear. It simply doesn’t have that filmy or sticky feeling.
