You’ve all probably heard about sodium bicarbonate and all the wonders it can do. It’s a white, powdery substance that has a bit salty, alkaline taste and its uses are so versatile that we think no one can really grasp you beneficial it can be.
Sodium Bicarbonate was first discovered in 1800 in Berlin at the College of Medicine and was imported from Europe until 1839, when the US started manufacturing it as well. Since 1839 we’ve known and loved baking soda for the many benefits it offers, but now we’ll share a few of its benefits you’ve probably never heard of.
Things you didn’t know baking soda can do:
- Bee stings
We’ve all been stung by a bee at least once in our lives and we know how painful it can be. If you’re not allergic to bees it’s not a very serious situation but it’s still painful and uncomfortable. If you want to sooth the pain and irritation, mix some baking soda and water into a paste and apply it on the affected area. The venom will start breaking down and your pain will disappear soon.
- Body odor
Sodium bicarbonate is amphoteric. It reacts with substances that have either strong acid or base pH. neutralizing them and making them less acidic.
Instead of using the chemically laden stick deodorants, you can make your own natural version and neutralize bad body odor completely naturally. All you need is some shea butter, arrowroot powder, baking soda and a few drops of your favorite essential oil
- Alkalizing pH
The following treatment is especially beneficial for patients suffer from digestive tract cancer and some other types of cancer as well: throat, colon, intestines, and rectum cancer.
Maybe you’ve already heard that cancer cells cannot survive in an alkaline environment so alkalizing your body can cause the cancer to shrink and disappear.
People who weigh about 170 pounds, should take 4-6 tsp. daily for a general detox and for maintenance. If you want to maintain the proper 7,4pH value in your body you should consume 1-2 tsp. of baking soda a day.
A healthy person’s pH level should be 7.4. You need a pH of 8.5 for several days or perhaps longer to force cancer to die. Until your cancer starts to die and tumors begin to shrink, you should consider keeping your pH between 8.0 and 8.5. When you get a clean bill of health you can reduce your dosage and get your body to its healthy 7.4 pH.
- Teeth whitener and general oral health
Brighten those pearly weights and eliminate plaque and yellow stains with baking soda. All it takes is adding a little of it to your toothpaste on your toothbrush and just brush your teeth like you normally would but for two minutes. Only do this once a day. You can actually create a teeth whitening concoction by mixing 4 tablespoons of turmeric root, 3 tablespoons of extra-virgin coconut oil, and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Use this mixture for a few days but only during one of your daily brushings. Too much baking soda can actually break down the natural enamel on your teeth so too much is not a good thing.
- Acid Reflux, heart burn and stomach pain
Baking soda is excellent for soothing acid reflux, heart burn and stomach pain because it neutralizes the excess acid causing it in the first place. If you’re suffering from these digestive problems dissolve ½ teaspoon in a half a glass of water and drink it every two hours (do not take more than seven ½ teaspoons in 24 hours, or three ½ teaspoons if you’re over 60).
If you have sunburn or blisters from really bad sunburn, baking soda can help relieve burning and itching by calming the irritated skin. Due to the drying and antiseptic properties of baking soda, it can dry up the blisters fast. All you have to do is mix 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda with cold water. Dip a washcloth into the mixture and wring it out so the excess isn’t sopping. Next apply it to the affected area, leaving it for 5 or 10 minutes. You can repeat this 2 or 3 times per day until you feel complete relief. You might also consider filling a bathtub full of water, adding a half of a cup of baking soda to the bath, mixing it well before hopping into the tub. Sit in the baking soda bath for 10-15 minutes. Pat your body dry or even air dry. You can do this once a day for a few days until the sunburn disappears or you find relief.
The following method for splinter removal can even work with a deeply embedded glass shard.
Wash the affected area and dry it gently, just don’t try to force it out you may just force it deeper inside. Make a thick paste by mixing ¼ teaspoon of baking soda and some water and apply the mixture on the splinter. Cover it with some bandage and leave it on for hours. The mixture will cause the skin to swell and push the splinter out. Once you remove the bandage you’ll probably see the splinter, take a pair of tweezers and remove it.
