A sty is an acute infection of the secretory glands of the eyelids most often caused by staphylococcal bacteria, which enter and infect an eyelid oil gland. The infection can appear in both the upper and lower eyelids, causing increased inflammation, pain, and redness of the eye. If the inflammation is severe, it can even affect the surrounding eyelid and cheek tissue.

This condition affects people of all ages, but it’s most common in children.

Generally, this infection is not a health risk; however it’s best cured right away. The natural treatments offered here are extremely beneficial for treatment of eye stys.

How to Naturally and Quickly Cure an Eye Sty

High Quality Homemade Plum Brandy

This is an old folk remedy that has proved extremely efficient against eye stys. All you need is some high quality homemade plum brandy and a little olive oil. Soak a clean cloth in the brandy and apply it around the affected eye. Remove after half an hour. Then soak another clean cloth in olive oil. Apply it on the affected eye and leave it act for several hours or overnight. In the morning, rinse your eye with chamomile tea.

A Warm Compress

This is another long known method for treatment of stys. Soak a cotton cloth in previously prepared hot chamomile, calendula and burdock root tea. Apply on the infected eye. After the compress cools off, remove it and apply some olive oil.

Apples and Potatoes

A sty can efficiently be treated with apples or potatoes. Apply a slice of the fruit or vegetable on the affected eye, wrap to keep in place, and leave for 2 hours to act.

St. John’s Wort

Disinfect your inflamed eye before you lubricate it with warm St. John’s wort oil. Then apply a thin honey layer on the eyelid and cover it with preheated gauze. Leave it on for several hours or overnight. Do the same the following day. The sty will disappear within a few days.

Try not to use any make-up throughout the treatments as this can only worsen the infection or trigger a new one. Also, work on strengthening your immune system – increase your daily intake of garlic, fresh fruit and vegetables, light soups etc.

If you leave your sty untreated, it can bother you for more than 10 days or until the inflammation lessens. As this infection is contagious, avoid using other people’s personal hygiene items, such as towels. Make sure you use clean face towels every day.
