Tapping is an Emotional Freedom Technique which includes using of your fingers to tap certain energy points on your body in order to relieve stress, alleviate pain and sometimes even lose weight. You can do tapping almost anywhere and whenever you are experiencing some stress, a moment of anxiety or mild pain.
WHAT ACUPRESSURE DOES FOR YOU
Acupressure, or also known as pressure acupuncture is a traditional Chinese alternative method which is based on applying pressure to certain acupressure points in the body in order to promote relaxation and stimulate body healing. This technique has been used for more than 5000 years by the Asian people and many Western clinicians have adopted it as well in order to provide their patients effective non-conventional medical treatment.
There are various types of pressure which can be applied, including shiatsu massage and kneading of larger muscles. Tapping is generally used for the face and head because these body parts have a number of sensitive areas with many nerve endings. Rhythmical tapping involves activation of a calming response in your body which is then followed with stress relief.
ENERGY MERIDIANS IN THE BODY
By simply touching your skin you will stimulate the energy centers which are located under the skin. In case of physical or emotional trauma the energy flow gets blocked and the tapping technique can eliminate the blockage and restore body balance.
There are twelve energy meridians in the human body, according to traditional Chinese medicine. Tapping of these meridians will stimulate energy flow throughout the body, which will improve blood circulation and all vital body functions.
SELF TALK TO EXPRESS FEELINGS
An essential part of EFT is expressing the feelings and emotions that are the cause of the energy blockage which means that you are verbally stating what is bothering you. Saying your problems out loud will immediately relieve your tension.
In this way you are able to accept yourself despite the difficulties you are experiencing. Additionally, by tapping you continue expressing the negative emotions and problems that you are facing.
HERE ARE THE STEPS FOR EFT:
- State the problem and tap your hand
You should begin with stating the problems that are causing you stress and then saying a self-love statement. For instance, if you are worried about your exam for tomorrow you can simply say: “Although I`m stressed out about my exam tomorrow, I love and accept myself”.
While you are saying this, use the fingers of one hand to repeatedly tap the outer fleshy edge of your opposite hand below your little finger. You are free to use as many fingers to tap as you feel comfortable and either hand. Repeat this three times.
- Tap your eyebrow
Tap the point on the inner edge of your eyebrow, where hair begins to grow. You can choose any side of the head. While tapping, say aloud how you feel. For example, you can say “I am so worried about the questions of my exam.” Tap for at least 10 seconds.
- Tap the outer eye
Tap the point on the outer eye corner on the bone below your outer eyebrow hair. You can do this on either side of your head. Once again, say your problem aloud.
- Tap the bone under your eye
Tap the point under your eye on the bone and say honestly what is bothering you. Spend about 10 seconds tapping.
- Tap under your nose
Tap the point below your nose and above your lip. Freely express your fears.
- Tap your chin
Tap the point under your bottom lip in the crease of your chin for 10 seconds. While tapping, express your doubts and fears.
- Tap your collarbone
Tap your fingers against either side of your collarbone for 10 seconds. Continue saying something else that is bothering you.
- Tap under your arm
Tap your fingers about two inches down from your armpit and say what are you feeling at the moment.
- Tap the crown of your head
Finally, tap your fingers once again and express your feeling about what is bothering you.
- Take a deep breath in and exhale it out.
